1984 - Welcome to Oceania
I believe that Winston's biggest conflict so far is that he is non forcibly going against the party, and his festering feelings are starting to show slowly. This showed in the text when Mrs. Parson's children noticed that Winston has committed a thought-crime. Winston remembers bits of the past in dreams, but he knows that the Ingsoc party hasn't been around before 1960. "Who
controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present
controls the past." He sees that the Ingsoc party has changed the history of the past so that it mentions that they've been around since the 1930's. Oceania is in complete totalitarian control, they prioritize control over quality of life, this is shown through the unending television screen posted in every single quartering, yet all the buildings are run down.
