Session 2 : More Tools

I came in today still feeling really knew to the shop. I found Edmund and we went to work. He explained again just how much tools can cost, thousands and thousands, but all those tools are worth it, especially when you buy named brand. ALWAYS BUY NAMED BRAND, craftsman, snap-on, etc. They give you a life time warranty. They may cost an arm an a leg, but it's worth it because these are going to be YOUR tools. To a mechanic these tools are like an extension of them self, they know what needs to be done and they have the right tools to do it. I can hardly imagine how much it is going to cost to have a decent amount of tools to keep in a shed. I expect to be spending heavily on necessary and basic tools.

Session 1 : Tools

I came into the shop for the first time not knowing how to actually START. I went around introducing myself to the technicians there but it was really awkward because they all spoke pretty much only Chinese! The first guy looked at me with a confused face, but I later found out that he doesn't speak English much at all. I found a guy working on a Scion xB, he was missing a water pump, and I stood there watching him for a few minutes then I introduced myself. He actually spoke pretty fluent English, but his language barrier was still there, so I actually have to interpret what he said. He taught me how much tools can actually be. It can cost up to $40 for just a single socket. He taught me that you need to stay fit as a technician so you can reach those hard-to-reach engine places. He taught me a few engine parts that I couldn't recognize like the starter motor, and he showed me the exhaust manifolds up front. He's spent thousands on just his tool kit. He explained that there are 'special tools' for every job. We had to split a hose from a pipe and we went the long way around but after all the work that was done to make removing the hose easier, he actually had a hose splitter which was a special tool, he said that sometimes you have so many tools you forget what you have! haha. The shop closed around 7 and that's when I packed up and left with them.

1984 - Welcome to Oceania

I believe that Winston's biggest conflict so far is that he is non forcibly going against the party, and his festering feelings are starting to show slowly. This showed in the text when Mrs. Parson's children noticed that Winston has committed a thought-crime. Winston remembers bits of the past in dreams, but he knows that the Ingsoc party hasn't been around before 1960. "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." He sees that the Ingsoc party has changed the history of the past so that it mentions that they've been around since the 1930's. Oceania is in complete totalitarian control, they prioritize control over quality of life, this is shown through the unending television screen posted in every single quartering, yet all the buildings are run down.

Democrats vs Republicans : The Fiscal Cliff

The bottom line is that, Republicans want to cut spending and avoid raising taxes, while Democrats are looking for a combination of spending cuts and tax increases. Although both political parties would like to avoid it completely, a compromise seems like an impossible solution because of debatable issues.

I didn't really use seach tools to find this answer, I typed in fiscal cliff and I read about what it was and in the reading was the answer to the question. The search tools are helpful, but usually more helpful on specific topic needs. The search strategies were new to be but I used google's advanced search before to research other topics. I will apply the search strategies when looking for details in my Capstone project.

Investigative

The investigative type says that the person likes to use cognitive thinking to solve mathematical or scientific problems. They prefer to study on the subject and expand their knowledge about it.

The majors that showed up were somewhat expected because I was leaning towards that area anyways. But a lot of the career options that were listed were unexpected. Dentistry and aerospace engineering are the 2 most interesting that came up. The listed career options are what I'm going to look into now.

My Hero

My hero is my father. He might not be a Master Legend or a Mr. Extreme or a Beowulf but he's still a hero in many other ways. My father is always there, he loves family time (although its not always possible), he pays the bills that allow us to keep our home and still manages to give us some allowance if we ask for it. He would tell us stories of his childhood and experiences in the air force and other life experiences. He helps me with a lot of my problems, like transportation sometimes (because I drive) or even my computer. My father is at his mid life, and he is not as fit as he should be at his age, hes got that beer gut and signs of a heavy smoker, but hes gotten into biking lately and is improving his cardio fitness. He'll probably be more fit than Master Legend of Mr. Extreme if he keeps it up haha. I've been going biking with him and it is pretty hard work pedaling at 17-30 miles per hour for more than an hour. By the end of our sessions the odometer would say we had biked about 25 or more miles. It is very tiring. Everything he does to help us is more than heroic in my standards and hes earned the title of hero to me.

This site is a very good time killer, especially the "WTF" section under Entertainment. I spent a portion of class just reading the hilarious posts. The posts on the site range from fashion to fitness that give great information and advice.
